Discover the science behind flight and space exploration.

Ever watched a rocket launch and wondered how it actually works? Aerospace Technologies takes students inside the science, engineering, and technology that make flight and space exploration possible. Across a three-course sequence, students build and launch rockets, fly virtual aircraft in a flight simulator, analyze flight data, and work in engineering teams to solve authentic aerospace challenges.

What students will learn

  • The history and future of aviation and space exploration
  • The forces of flight and aircraft performance
  • How aircraft, rockets, and spacecraft are designed and built
  • Weather, navigation, and flight planning
  • Aircraft electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Propulsion systems, from piston engines to rockets
  • Model rocket design and launches
  • Flight simulator operation using realistic aviation procedures
  • Robotics, automation, AI, and unmanned aircraft systems (drones)
  • Satellite technology, planetary science, and human spaceflight

Inside the classroom

Students train on a flight simulator, design and launch rockets, run lab investigations, analyze aviation weather, plan navigation routes, and take on team engineering challenges. Industry guest speakers and field experiences are added when available.
