Academics in Action: Where the Value of Learning Comes Alive

Education at Ohana Prep goes far beyond the textbook. While our core curriculum provides a strong foundation in English, math, science, social studies, and world languages, students see the value of what they are learning. Through real-world projects, specialized STEAM electives, and immersive local internships, we help students turn knowledge into application.

What Project-Based Learning Means for Your Child

Project-based learning means your child doesn't just read about a concept, they apply it: designing, building, testing, and presenting real projects alongside teachers and, where possible, the working professionals near the Dania Beach campus. It's a hands-on complement to a strong academic core, not a replacement for it.

The college-preparatory curriculum stays rigorous and sequenced, and Kaplan's ACT, SAT, and AP preparation runs alongside it, with online classes and independent study options for students carrying a full schedule.

Small Classes and a Flexible Schedule

Every student is paired with a teacher or advisor who follows their progress year over year. Small class sizes mean support arrives before a struggle becomes a pattern, and a strength gets noticed instead of overlooked.

Students balancing competitive athletics, dance, music, or visual and performing arts training need a schedule that works with those commitments, not against them. Ohana Prep's small-cohort model is designed with that flexibility in mind.

What that looks like
  • An 8 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio
  • A faculty advisor who knows your child's goals, year after year
  • Online classes and independent study options for a full schedule
  • Flexible scheduling for student-athletes and performing artists

Internships/Externships

Students start with short, immersive experiences like guest speakers and site tours, then move into hands-on internships and externships. These build employer connections, earn service hours, and offer insights that guide students through key decisions.

How the program works

Early Exploration

Guest speakers and short externships connect classroom learning to real-world careers, often with the designers and business owners inside DCOTA.

Hands-On Experience

Non-paid workplace internships offer meaningful employer connections, service hours for college applications, and practical skill-building.

Personalized Growth

By strengthening the Ohana network, we help students make confident, incremental life decisions aligned with their individual strengths and passions.

Ohana Prep's Approach to AI

AI is already part of how work gets done, and at Ohana Prep, students learn to use it responsibly. Teachers set clear expectations per assignment, whether AI is a research partner, a drafting aid, or off-limits, so students build real judgment, not habits.

Our approach to AI

Study How It Works

Students learn how machine learning systems are built, where they fail, and what responsible development looks like in practice.

Use It with Disclosure

Clear, assignment-level expectations teach transparency rather than suspicion, guiding students to document how and why they used AI.

Defend the Thinking

Students present and defend projects in person to teachers and professionals, proving their understanding cannot be outsourced.
